Vanderwegen, Merle (1 OCT 1895 – 10 AUG 1969)
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church
for a former area resident, Mrs. Merle Vanderwegen, 75, Aitkin, Minn., who died
Sunday morning at a nursing home here.
The Rev. Frederick Karlheim officiated and burial was made in Riverside
Cemetery.
The former Muriel Aucutt was born October 1, 1895, at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.),
where she also received here education. Shew as married to Frank Vanderwegen,
who preceded her in death. She worked for a number of years as a telephone
operator at Thorp, and she and her husband also operated a hardware store, and
later a general store in the area. After the death of her husband, she moved to
Minnesota.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barney (Betty) Hasz, Aitkin, Minn.; two
grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Smithfranz and Mrs. Pearl Ness, both of
Black River Falls, and Mrs. Elroy Holzhauzen, Beloit; and a brother, Tom Aucutt,
Milwaukee.
