Schoengarth, Ruby R. (9 April 1932 – 12 August 2017)
Ruby R. Schoengarth (Holman) of Mosinee, formerly of Merrillan, passed away
Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau.
She was born April 9, 1932, to Melvin and Sadie (Ives) Holman in Price. She grew
up on a dairy farm in Humbird surrounded by five brothers.
Ruby married the love of her life, Merlon Schoengarth, April 7, 1951, at the
Methodist Church in Humbird. Together they had two children, and were foster
parents to 12 children.
Ruby worked at the Norplex plastics plant shortly after moving to Merrillan. She
later worked for DeVan Staples Hardware Store, UW-Extension in the expanded
foods and nutrition program, she did home care, and worked for Jackson County
Health and Human Services, assisting the developmentally disabled.
In her spare time, she loved to bake, fish, birdwatch, and make wedding cakes.
Ruby was a very active member at the United Methodist Church in Merrillan, and
loved her position as secretary/treasurer of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation
in District 6.
In 2009, Ruby relocated to Kronenwetter to be close to family. During this time,
her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Robert) Peterson; son Larry (Colleen)
Schoengarth, Angie (Wendall) Ziegler; brother, Bernie (Maureen) Holman;
sisters-in-law, Delores (Bernard) Walker, and Evie Schoengarth; five
grandchildren, Becky (Ton) Dallman, Bob (Tracy) Peterson, Lynn (Dustin) Rees,
Mindy (James Lowther) Schoengarth, and hank (Adran) Schoengarth; six
great-grandchildren; her Merrillan family, Rob, Judy, Kelly, and Karla Hawley;
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlon; parents Melvin and Sadie;
brothers Lester (Darlene), Bob (Ruth), Gene (Dee), and Danny (Shirley) Holman,
and brother-in-law Robert Schoengarth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church, Merrillan. Reverend Meg Erickson will be officiating. Burial
will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan.
Family and friends were invited to visitation Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, from 5
p.m. until 7 p.m. at Jensen Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and are invited for
visitation Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton is assisting the family with
arrangements.
