Hodd, Gerry (10 OCT 1951 – 23 AUG 1969)
A 17-year-old Abbotsford youth, helping his father construct an outdoor theater
a mile south of Abbotsford on Highway 13, was killed instantly last Saturday
morning when a falling steel beam crushed his head and chest.
The victim was Gerry Hodd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hodd.
His father, owner of the Abbotsford Theater, is being treated in St. Joseph's
Hospital in Marshfield for head, chest, shoulder and arm injuries suffered in
the same accident. He was reported in fari condition today.
The fatality occurred while Hodd and his son were positioning a beam as part of
the framework for the outdoor theater screen.
Funeral services for Gerry were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the new Presbyterian
Church in Abbotsford, with the Rev. Charles Glidden officiating. Burial was made
in the Abbotsford Cemetery.
Gerry was born at Medford, October 10, 1951, and had lived in the Abbotsford
area most of his life. He was a 1969 graduate of Colby High Schol and had been
employed with his father in the construction of the outdoor theater.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Mrs. Gerald (June) Johnson,
Medford; Mrs. Alvin (Carol) Rabehl, Wausau; Janet, at home; and a brother,
David, also at home.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jr., in 1952, when he was struck
by an automobile.
