Christophersen, Chris (30 OCT 1894 – 26 OCT 1969)
Funeral services for Chris Christophersen, 75, prominent civic leader and
retired farmer, were conducted yesterday, Wednesday, October 29 at two o'clock
from the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. The parish pastor, Rev. H.W.
Luetkehoelter, officiated, with interment at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were his nephews, Gordon and Lawrence Christophersen,
Donald Martin, and Any, Melvin and David Smith. The wives of these men served as
flora bearers.
He passed away at his home of a heart ailment at two o'clock Sunday afternoon,
October 26, 1969.
Mr. Christophersen was born October 30, 1894 in Denmark, where he also received
his education. He came to the United States in 1912 and had lived in the Dakotas
until serving in the Army during World War I.
His marriage to Nora Smith took place at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) on November
17, 1920. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Longwood until retiring in
1960. He had served as supervisor on the town board and had been a member of the
Clark County Board. At the time of his death he was a trustee of the Clark
County Hospital.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Gay Christophersen, Withee; Scot,
Bellevue, Wash.; Jerry, Owen; and Allen, also of Withee; a daughter, Mrs. Arlie
(Debra) Gramzow, Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren, and a half-sister, Mrs. Wallace
Wood, Withee.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
