Mellenthin, Eleanor A. (16 FEB 1922 – 27 AUG 2017)
Eleanor Anna Mellenthin, age 95, died on Sunday August 27, 2017. A Memorial
service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday August 31, 2017 at St. John's ELCA
Lutheran Church, W1776 2nd Avenue, Riplinger, WI. Rev. Rebekah Tarras will
officiate. Burial will be held in St. John's Cemetery, Riplinger. Visitation
will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
She was born February 16, 1922 in the Town of Unity to Arthur H. And Alvina A.
(nee Johnson) Edblom. Eleanor was raised on the family farm and received her
education at the Sunshine School in rural Unity and also attended Colby High
School, Colby.
On December 12, 1942, she married Norman F. Mellenthin at Unity Lutheran Church.
She and her husband raised three children on the Mellenthin family farm in the
Unity township until September 1982 when they turned the farm over to their son
and moved to Spencer. Norman passed away on February 11, 1997.
Eleanor was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Riplinger, the Up and
Coming Homemaker's Club, Ladies Aid, Garden Club, Clark County Historical
Society and various card groups (one group lasting over 50 years). More than
anything she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children; Nancy Dietsche, Spencer and Douglas (LouAnn)
Mellenthin, Loyal, grandchildren; Lori (Lonnie) Martin, Denver, CO, Linda
(Scott) Chisholm, Highlands Ranch, CO, Tammi (Mike) Schiferl, Marshfield and
Jodi (Paul) Leezer, Spencer, great grandchildren; Ben and Dan Chisholm, Brandon
Schiferl, Gracie and Matthew Leezer, sister; Gail Mainard, 4 sisters-in-law;
Florence Edblom, Zona Edblom, Erma Singstock and Katherine Mellenthin and also
several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, husband, daughter; Karen
Larson, sisters; Esther Egnoski, Ethel Felker, Evelyn Alexander and Eileen
Safemaster, brothers; Arnold, Arthur Jr., Alfred and Alvin Edblom and two
sons-in-law; Dennis Larson and Ronald Dietsche.
