Helwig, Dan (? – 27 August 2017)
Funeral services will be held on Sept. 2 for Dan Helwig. Helwig died Aug. 27
while working at his lake home in Mikana, northeast of Rice Lake. He was
designing and building a treehouse for his grandsons.
Helwig was born in Webster, South Dakota. His family later moved to Neillsville,
where they farmed. He was a 1969 graduate of Neillsville High School and
graduated from the UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture in 1973.
Helwig spent the first 10 years of his career with Boson Construction in
Marshfield and then started his own firm: Design Unlimited in 1984.
Helwig’s design work is in many of Marshfield’s most notable structures,
including Jack Hackman Field, PreventionGenetics, Prairie Run Dental, Robert Kay
Orthodontics, the Dental Clinic of Marshfield, Time Federal Savings Bank,
Forward Financial Bank’s current offices, First Presbyterian and Christ Lutheran
churches, and the Wildwood Station Pavilion as well as other structures at
Wildwood Park & Zoo.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Lueck Helwig, their three sons and six
grandchildren, four brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial service for Dan Helwig will be held at 4 p.m. on Sept 2 at Christ
Lutheran Church, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 3 p.m.
until service time. The Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Children’s Miracle Network or
Marshfield Area United Way for the Nutrition On Weekends or Keep Kids Warm
programs.
