Herbert Robert Horn was born on April 30, 1927, in the town of Warner, rural
Greenwood, to Gustave and Anna (nee Woepse) Horn. He was raised on the family
farm and received his education in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood
High School in 1945. He took over the operation of the family farm right after
completing high school. During the winter months, he worked for Clayton Braun,
doing logging. Herbert married Lila A. Richmond on June 30, 1951, at Immanuel
United Church of Christ, rural Greenwood. Together, they farmed and raised their
children in the town of Warner. He was a lifelong farmer, living his entire life
on the farm until entering the nursing home in November 2016. He was a member of
Immanuel United Church of Christ, served on the Board of Directors for Greenwood
Milk Products for many years, and was a member of the Black River Bowman’s Club.
Herbert had many interests, but especially enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling,
hunting and fishing. His most treasured time was that spent with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Bruce Horn of Cincinnati, Ohio, Luann
(Chris) Baker of Greenwood, and Allen (Laura) Horn of Eau Claire; seven
grandchildren: Eric (Christa) Baker, Ryan (Liz) Baker, Jennifer Baker, Madeline
Horn, Logan Horn, Grace Horn and Nadia Horn; two great-grandsons: Ransom and
Samuel Baker; one sister-in-law: Betty Horn of Greenwood; and nieces, nephews,
other relatives and many friends.
