Toburen, Delmain R. "Del" (17 NOV 1941 – 8 SEP 2017)
Delmain R. “Del” Toburen, 75, Greenwood, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017,
at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield. The funeral service will be held at 11
a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the United Church of Christ in Greenwood.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the home of Chris and
Jana Schmitz, 615 S. Main Street, Greenwood.
Delmain Rodger Toburen was born on Nov. 17, 1941, at the family farm, the only
child of Erwin and Laverne (nee Fravert) Toburen. After dating for six years, he
married Carole (Dillenbeck) Toburen on Sept. 21, 1963, at the United Church of
Christ in Greenwood, the same church in which Delmain was baptized and
confirmed. After graduating from Greenwood High School in 1960, Del joined the
Army Reserves. After returning home to Greenwood, he owned the Standard Oil
Route until purchasing his family farm where he was born. He operated it until
1996. In his “retirement,” he still enjoyed working the fields doing custom
cropping for Landini Farms. To say Del loved hunting is an understatement. He
hunted the very first bear season in 1964. He enjoyed coon, fox, coyote, bobcat,
and turkey hunting, as well. Deer hunting was a great time of year, although his
love was hunting with hounds. His pride and joy were his children until his nine
grandchildren were born, as he would say “I like them better.” There wasn’t a
sporting event that he missed; he loved to watch his kids and especially his
grandchildren play sports. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. To know
Del was to love him, he was kind to everyone, his one-liners and quick wit will
surely be missed.
Del is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carole; two sons: Mark (Sandy) Toburen
of Merrill, and their children, Drew and Sydney; and David (Laura) Toburen of
Greenwood, and their children, Jordan, Dane and Devin; two daughters: Bobbi
Toburen of Greenwood, and Jana (Chris) Schmitz of Greenwood, and their children,
Delten, Paetyn, Ashtyn and Westen; his in-laws: Roger Dillenbeck, Chuck Rondorf,
Joanne (Ron) Henchen, Jim (Sue) Dillenbeck, Harold (Kathy) Dillenbeck, Rick
(Joy) Dillenbeck and Deb (Skeeter) Larson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two children: son Michael Lee and daughter Jacki
Lynn; his parents, Erwin and Laverne Toburen; his in-laws, Harold Sr. & Margaret
Dillenbeck; one brother-in-law, Bob Dillenbeck; and one sister-in-law, Marge
Rondorf.
