Hurlburt, Steven “Steve” J. (12 MAY 1970 - 6 SEP 2017)
Steven “Steve” J. Hurlburt, 47, Conrath, and formerly of Cadott and Cornell,
passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, in the Town of Ruby, Chippewa County.
Steven was born May 12, 1970, the son of Harold Brent and Judy Ann (Hetke)
Hurlburt, in Eau Claire. He married Kristina Roth April 3, 1993, in Cornell.
Steve was a loving, devoted father to his two sons. He felt great joy in helping
them learn and grow into responsible young adults.
Steve also enjoyed participating in multiple sports when he attended school in
Manitowoc. As an adult, he got into mixed martial arts training and competition.
MMA was a love he shared with his brother and his sons, who also have trained
and competed.
Anyone seeing Steve with a child in his arms knew what a great heart he had. He
loved spending time with his family doing anything, but he especially loved
hunting. Give him a shotgun, a dog and a can of Copenhagen, and he could spend
all day in the woods. Steve will be sadly missed by his family and extended
family, friends and his dog, Rampage. He left us all too early, but he gave us
great memories and so much joy in the time we had with him.
He is survived by his sons – Brent Steven Hurlburt and Brandon Lee Hurlburt,
both of Cadott; father and stepmother – Brent and Kristen Hurlburt, Cornell;
mother – Judy Hetke, Cornell; brother – Nathan Hurlburt; niece – Macey Hurlburt,
Eau Claire; former wife – Kristina Hurlburt, Cornell; maternal grandparents –
Wilmar and Shirley Hetke, Bloomer; paternal grandmother – Jane Hurlburt,
Cornell; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and his dog – Rampage.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather – Harold “Bud” Hurlburt.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in
Cornell, with Pastor Andy Schottelkorb officiating. Interment was in the Cornell
Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the
funeral home.
