Czech, John N. Sr. (6 DEC 1897 – 19 FEB 1970)
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 24, at Saints Peter and Paul
Catholic Church, Gilman, for John N. Czech Sr., 72-year-old Hannibal area
resident who died Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls,
where he had been hospitalized the past four days. He had been in ill health for
the past three and one-half years. Rev. Alphonse Zoltowski officiated, and
burial took place in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). Nephews
served as pallbearers.
The body lay in state at Gilman Funeral Home.
Mr. Czech was born December 6, 1897 in Poland. He came to the United States in
1910, settled in the town of Taft and later moved to the Thorp area. His
marriage to Genevieve Gaska took place in 1926 at St. Hedwig's Church.
Surviving are his wife; six sons: Leon of Walworth, Anton and Adolph of Gilman,
John Jr. of Milwaukee, Ted of Thorp, and Robert of Phoenix, Arizona; two
daughters, Sylvia, Mrs. Donald Fraase of Decatur, Ga., and Miss Kathleen Czech
of Thorp, and 19 grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Antoinette
Prokopiak and Mrs. Pauline Zajackowski of Thorp, and one brother, Roman, of
Thorp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and two brothers.
