Ann Stencil, 91, Edgar, died on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at Rennes Health and
Rehab, Weston, surrounded by her family and under the care of Ministry Home Care
Hospice.
She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Junction City, the daughter of the late Frank and
Anastasia (Walsky) Kowalski. On April 22, 1944, she married George Stencil at
St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2014.
In 1957, Ann began working in the sewing department at Standard Container
(Badger Basket), retiring in June of 1994 after 37 years of employment. She also
worked alongside her husband, George, on the family farm, raising cattle and
growing ginseng. Among her favorite pastimes, Ann enjoyed playing sheepshead
with family and friends, snowmobiling, trips to the casino, traveling, polka
dancing and going up north to their four cottages on Lake Nakomis in Tomahawk.
Ann was a longtime member of St. John Catholic Church, the St. Rita’s group, and
enjoyed working at the St. John hamburger stand at the Edgar Steam Show and
Edgar Carnival.
Survivors include her four children, Diane Laessig, Edgar, Darlene (Ronald)
Rajek, Mosinee, Gary Stencil, Edgar, and Gloria (Allan) Baumann, Edgar; nine
grandchildren, Dan (Jenny) Laessig, Stratford, Duane (Anne) Laessig, Glendale,
Erik (Kristen Wazak) Laessig, Omaha, Neb., Tammy and Lisa Rajek, Mosinee, Jason
(Crystal) Stencil, Edgar, Jennifer (Mike Merriam) Stencil, Weston, Scott
(Jennifer) Baumaunn, Marathon, and Stacey (Chris) Trawicki, Edgar; 11
great-grandchildren, Tom and Amy Laessig, Adam Laessig, Brady and Mallory
Stencil, Addisyn and Anthony Trawicki, Hunter, Mikayla, Zackary and Gabriella
Baumann; one great-great-grandchild, Aubree Laessig; three step-grandchildren,
Sam, Jake and Zac Casey; two half-brothers, Steve and Barney; and one
half-sister, Beverly.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terrance Laessig;
and a great-great-granddaughter, Shannon Laessig.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at St. John
Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Thomas Huff will preside. Burial will be in the
parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service,
all at the church.
Pallbearers for the service will be her nine grandchildren and Chris Trawicki;
gift bearers will be Hunter, Zachary and Mikayla Baumann, Addisyn and Anthony
Trawicki, Gabriela Baumann, Aubree and Amy Laessig and Mallory Stencil; soloists
will be Lisa Rajek and Marilyn Sonnentag; Mass server will be Brady Stencil; and
readers will be Stacey Trawicki and Beverly Stencil.
