Sossaman, Nila Mae (Sterling) Buss (6 APR 1926 - 2 OCT 2017)

Nila Mae Buss Sossaman, age 91, formerly of Colby, passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Wausau Manor. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

Nila was born April 6, 1926, the daughter of Nedry and Elizabeth (Brown) Sterling in the Town of Holton. She attended Colby Grade School and graduated from Abbotsford High School. Nila was united in marriage to James Buss on June 16, 1945. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1995. She was united in marriage to Claude Sossaman on October 18, 1998. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2010.

Nila worked as a florist Marge’s Flower until she retired at the age of 72. She was a member of the Colby VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Nila enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and playing billiards. She also loved to decorate her house with pigs and chickens.

Nila is survived by her grandchildren, Sherrie (Rob) Rupe of Wausau, Randy (Darlene) Buss of Missouri, Angie (Bill) Hansen of Freemont, Derek (Jessica) Buss of North Dakota, Jennifer (Nick) of Green Bay and Jessica Luft of Unity.

She is further survived by 15 great-grandchildren; her first great-great-grandson to be due in December 2017; and her childhood and lifelong friend, Elsie Woik of Colby.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, James and Claude; her son, Daniel; and her sister, Evelyn Elstrom.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
