Szymanski, Ignatius (20 JAN 1875 – 12 MAY 1970)

Ignatius Szymanski, 95, of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), died at Victory Memorial Hospital Tuesday, May 12, 1970, after a lingering illness.

A K.C. Rosary was recited at 7:30 and General Rosary at 8:00 p.m., May 14, at the Thorp Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig’s Chapel, with Father Joe Walijewski officiating. Interment took place at St. Hedwig’s Parish Cemetery (Old St. Hedwig’s).

Pallbearers were: Ignatius Przybylski, Mike Strzok, Adam Szerlong, Peter Lukas, and John Wnek.

Ignatius Szymanski was born in Poland, January 20, 1875. In 1889 he came to the United States. He lived in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but later moved to Chicago, where he owned and operated a Butcher Shop on Chicago’s South Side.

On October 4, 1911, he married Helen Slota in Chicago. They later moved to Thorp, where they owned and operated a farm till retirement 16 years ago. They then retired and moved to Thorp to live until his death.

Ignatius Szymanski served as treasurer of Pozen School Board for many years. He was a member of Thaddeus Kosluszka P.N.A. Group 646 of Thorp.

Surviving are his wife Helen; two sons, Arthur of Thorp, and Louis of Chicago; one daughter, Edna Rogalski, of Chicago; 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John, of Poland, and 2 sisters, Frances and Bernice.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were from: Florissant, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; Lombard, Illinois; Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Wausau, New Richmond, Chetek, Gilman and Stanley, Wisconsin; Round Lake, Illinois; and Minneapolis and Mound, Minnesota.
