Schaefer, Harold D. (19 MAR 1924 – 24 SEP 2017)
Harold D. Schaefer, age 93, of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wisconsin, passed away
peacefully at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp, on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Thorp
United Methodist Church. Rev. Sandra Hamilton officiated, and burial followed in
East Thorp Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Thorp American Legion
Post #118. Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 12 p.m. until time
of service.
Harold Delbert Schaefer was born March 19, 1924 in Sandstone, Minnesota, to
Louis and Gladys (Dietrick) Schaefer, where he was raised and received his
education. Harold was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 13, 1943 and served
in the 83rd Infantry during WWII, where he was wounded in action and was awarded
the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharge on February 26, 1946. Harold was
united in marriage to Florence (White) Nault on December 15, 1973, in Superior,
Wisconsin. Harold worked on the railroad for a few years, but spent most of his
life in road construction and driving truck.
He was a member of Thorp United Methodist Church, and was a lifetime member of
the VFW in Roseville, Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Florence, of Thorp; one son, Patrick
(Sharon) Schaefer of Lublin; one daughter, Leslie Rada of St. Paul, Minnesota;
two step-sons, Joseph (Sharon) Nault of Florida, and Napp (Jane) Nault of
Foxboro, Wisconsin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one
sister-in-law, Esther Schaefer, of Superior, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph (Helen)
Schaefer, Everett Schaefer and Harley "Roy" (Charlotte) Schaefer.
