George E. Filipiak, 58, of Gilman, died peacefully at his home under the care of
Hope Hospice on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, following a year and a half battle with
cancer. George was loved by so many. The world has lost a wonderful man.
George was born on July 21, 1959 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the
son of Ernest and Florine (Erdman) Filipiak. George grew up in the Jump River
and Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High in 1977.
He was in the Operating Engineers Union #139 for many years, and also worked for
Shawano Transport, Payne and Dolan-Waukesha and most recently, Mathey Company in
Onalaska. George was an active member of the Jump River Runners Snowmobile Club.
He loved solving the world’s problems with his friends, the outdoors, tinkering
in his yard, but most of all, spending time with his boys, Lucas and Trevor.
George is survived by his mother, Florine Filipiak of Gilman; his sons, Lucas
and Trevor Filipiak of Thorp; his special friend Jackie; and life-long friend
and mother of his sons, Jennifer Maier; his siblings, Lori Robinson of Stanley,
Nora (Patrick) Wood of Eau Claire, Robert Filipiak of Westboro, Tom (Natalie)
Filipiak and Jerry Filipiak both of Orlando, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and
friends.
George was preceded in death by his father, Ernest.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Jump River
Community Center with Pastor Brian Welsh, from Trinity Christian Fellowship in
Stanley, officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The
family invites you to a luncheon after the service. Interment will take place at
a later date at Mount Nebo Cemetery.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, George’s family is requesting donations be made to the
American Cancer Society in his memory.
