Mary Ellen Gastmann, 82, Phillips, died on Tuesday, October 10, in the Aspirus
Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home
Health and Hospice.
She was born in Freeport, Illinois, on January 9, 1935, the daughter of Karl and
Loleita Blodgett. She was married to Arthur “Paul” Gastmann on March 21, 1954,
in Freeport, Illinois. They made their home in Phillips in 1966 where they owned
and operated the Skyline Motel from 1966 to 1973, and then the Gambles Hardware
Store from 1976 to 1982. She was later employed by Flambeau Home Health and
Hospice and Pleasant View Nursing Home as a CNA. She was a devoted wife and
mother, and in her free time she enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, painting, and
sewing.
She is survived by her five children, Patricia Stanke, Phillips, Pamela (Randy)
Johnson, Marshfield, WI, Paula (George) Bushman, Catawba, Steve (Terra)
Gastmann, Phillips, and Wendy (Bob) Tenney, Sierra Vista, AZ; by 13
grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and by one sister, Pat Slaby,
Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on March 10, 2010; and is also
preceded in death by one brother, Charles Blodgett; and by one son-in-law, Terry
Stanke.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 21, at the
United Methodist Church in Phillips with Pastor Loretta Waughtal officiating.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of
services.
