Donnelly, John W. "Slim" (1900 – 17 AUG 1970)
John W. "Slim" Donnelly, 70, died at Victory Memorial Hospital Monday morning.
He was born in Illinois in 1900 and grew up there. He moved to Chippewa Falls as
a youth and managed the Imperial Mochars Orchestra and the Biggest Little Band
there for several years. He married the former Irene Thierbach in 1927 in
Chippewa Falls.
Prior to 1936 he owned the former Heller's Bar and Café in Thorp (Clark Co.,
Wis.). In 1936 he built Donnelly's Steak House on Lake Wissota. He operated the
restaurant for 22 years. In 1968 he moved to Stanley and has lived there since.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, Stanley; four brothers, Joe and Harry, both
of Bloomington, Illinois; Thomas, Slater, Missouri; Edward, Peoria, Illinois;
three sisters, Mrs. Anna Hart and Catherine Donnelly, both of Redwood City,
California, and Mrs. Mary Hall, Jacksonville, Illinois.
Services were Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic North Church in
Stanley, with Reverend Donald Berg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Nebo Cemetery,
Jump River.
