Manning, Elizabeth Ann (4 JUL 1970)
Elizabeth Ann Manning and Edwin Francis Wegner exchanged marriage vows in Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Newton July 4, 1970 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Edward J.
Shepherd officiated at the double ring service. Two baskets of white spider mums
decorated the altar. White and pink bows marked the bridal aisle.
George A. Manning of 112 E. 12th St. North, Newton, is father of the bride. Mr.
and Mrs. John Wegner of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) are parents of the bridegroom.
The bride wore a floor length gown of white organza over peau de soie trimmed
with large Venice lace daisies centered with smaller daisies and wide Venice
lace banding in floral pattern. The molded bodice, with slightly raised
waistline, had a high ring collar encircle with daisy medallions. The elbow
length puff sleeves were gathered to cuffs of wide lace banding. Gathers at each
side, front and across the back waistline created fullness in the A-line skirt,
which fell over the peau de soie. Her Watteau panel train, which billowed to
chapel length, was fastened at the back waistline. It was appliqued with daisies
at the top and bordered at the hemline with lace banding. Her Venice lace
headpiece held her three tier elbow length veil of bridal illusion. She carried
a white Bible topped with pink roses and white stephanotis.
Mrs. Colleen Larimer was matron of honor. She wore a hot pink crepe floor length
gown in A-line styling. The gown featured a bow in front of the slightly
gathered raised waistline. The neck and hemline were bordered with ruffles. She
wore a white lace picture hat and carried a nosegay of pink roses and daisies
with white streamers.
Mrs. Judy Warner of Muscatine, and Susan Hindman, cousin of the bride, were
bridesmaids. They were attired identical to the matron of honor.
Vernon Wegner of Withee, attended his brother as beest man. Frank Vogel of
Newton and Morris Russell of Lynnville, cousin of the bride, were groomsmen.
Ushers were Craig Wissink and John Gilger.
Tom Netzel, organist, accompanied Martin Ogden as he sand "The Wedding song,"
"Ave Maria" and "Oh Lord Most Holy."
The reception was held at McCann Center. A five tier cake with pink roses, white
bells and two rings on the top, centered the talbe. Pink and white carried out
the table appointments. Assisting in serving were Mrs. Dorman Parker, Nancy
Septer, Mrs. Lucy Snodgrass and Mrs. Verda McDermott. Mrs. Jack Hindman, aunt of
the bride, was reception hostess.
Sally Hindman, cousin of the bride, presided over the guest book. Mrs. Joanna
Davis and Mrs. Carl R. Anderson presided at the gift table.
Following a trip to Colorado, the couple will be at home July 20 at 712 E. 4/1/3
St, Newton, Iowa.
The bride attended Iowa State University in Ames and graduated as a court
reporter from AIB in Des Moines. She is employed at the Maytag Company as a
secretary.
The bridegroom graduated from the University of Wisconsin, in Mechanical
Engineering. He is a tool engineer at the Maytag Company.
Special guests were Mrs. S.A. Kimmel, grandmother of the bride, Mrs. Stella
Przybylski and Mrs. Martha Jarocki of Thorp, aunts of the bridegroom.
Mrs. Manning wore a green lace dress with white accessories. Mrs. Wegner wore a
turquoise lace dress with beige accessories.
Mr. and Mrs. Wegner hosted a dinner party at St. Hedwig's Quonset Hall for the
couple at Thorp on July 16th. After the dinner, music was provided by Walter
Star and Joe Milas. Hostess was Mrs. Ed Przybylski.
Courtesies were extended to the bride by Mrs. Harold Brayton, Mrs. Colleen
Larimer, Mrs. Jo Davis, Mrs. Wilman Manning, and Mrs. Jack Hindman.
Mr. and Mrs. Manning hosted a cocktail party following the rehearsal at Cliff's
for the wedding party.
