Bernt, Marie G. (Held) (19 MAR 1928 - 28 OCT 2017)
Marie G. Bernt, age 89, of Abbotsford, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at
Marshfield Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Milan. Rev. Jeffrey A. Lambrecht will preside. Interment will
be held in the church cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 1 p.m. until
the time of service Sunday at the church.
Serving as her pallbearers are her grandsons, Kevin, Kraig, Chad, Ryan, Joshua;
and great-grandson, Dalton.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the
arrangements.
Marie was born March 19, 1928, in Furth, Germany, the daughter of Hans and
Martha (Oelsner) Held. She married Herbert Bernt and had three children. In
1953, they moved to the United States. Marie worked at Figi’s for over 30 years.
Marie was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan and her faith was very
strong. Herbert and Marie took many trips back to Germany and visited many of
the states in the U.S. While she was able, Marie loved to knit and crochet
clothes, mittens and hats for all her grandchildren. She loved angels and
watching hummingbirds fly on her flowers.
She is survived by three children, Helmut (Janet) Bernt of Abbotsford, Brigitte
(Virgil) Underwood of Athens and Walter Bernt of Abbotsford; 11 grandchildren,
Kevin (Jenny) Underwood, Kraig Underwood, Tammy (Chad) Clore, Kim (Ken)
Schreiner, Tracy (Mike) Spindler, Chad (Carey) Bernt, Ryan (Tami) Bernt, Amanda
(Jason) Koplin, Joshua (Erin) Bernt, Nicole Bernt and Deven Bernt; 18
great-grandchildren: Dalton, Autumn, Dylana, Riley, Tanner, Hayden, Katelyn,
Tyler, Olivia, Paige, Karter, Blake, Taylor, Ethan, Ashlyn, Gavin, Finnegan and
Graecyn. She is further survived by her sister, Ingrid Weber of Germany; nieces
and nephews; relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert in 2009; nine
brothers and sisters, Hans, Erich, Werner, Walter, Margot, Johanna, Helgard,
Luise and Monika.
