Louis Biddle, Rolling Ground cheesemaker for the past 18 years, formerly of
Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), won his fifth State Championship at the State Fair in
Milwaukee last week with a sample of two-year-old aged cheddar.
Biddle, who with his wife, produces about 4,000 pounds of cheese daily at
Rolling Ground, won the World Championship title, the U.S. Championships and his
fourth consecutive State Championship in 1966.
He entered his aged cheddar this year for the first time since 1966, and say
that he will probably not enter the state fair again in the future.
Using all local milk in his cheese, Biddle has been the cheesemaker at the
Rolling Ground factory since 1952.
The cheddar which won him his fifth Wisconsin Blue Ribbon was two years old on
August 2nd.
