Nernberger, Neil F. (26 JAN 1967 – 2 NOV 2017)
Neil F. Nernberger, 50, departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, in Withee,
surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Family
and friends are invited to pay respects at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp, on
Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 4-8 p.m. Per Neil’s wishes, the burial service on the
following day will be private. Serving as pallbearers will be Lynn Nernberger,
Todd Nernberger, Kent Nernberger, Ryan Nernberger, Kevin Purdy and Jason Hanson.
Neil was born on Jan. 26, 1967, to Kenneth and Marian (nee Krug) Nernberger. He
graduated from Medford Area Senior High School in 1985. Following in his
family’s tradition, Neil was proud to have honorably served his country as a
member of the United States Army National Guard. He was most recently employed
as a maintenance technician at Grassland Dairy Products Inc. in Greenwood.
Prior to Grassland, Neil was employed at Weather Shield Windows & Doors in
Medford, where he met the love of his life, Shanna Colby. They were married on
Oct. 21, 2000, and were blessed with two loving children, Alexis and Damian.
Neil excelled at his job and was committed to working hard. Outside of work, his
family was his focus and he immensely enjoyed spending his free time with them,
including attending school and sports activities. He also enjoyed “tinkering” in
his shed and watching the Brewers and Packers. He was fond of the occasional
game of golf, and while never admitting it, was very good at it. He was the
undisputed master of the game “Catch Phrase” and delighted in meeting monthly
with his friends for “game night.”
Neil is survived by his wife, Shanna; his children: Alexis, Damian, and Jacob
(Kendall); his parents: Kenneth and Marian (Krug) Nernberger; his mother-in-law:
Dorothy Colby; his brothers: Lynn (Mary), Todd (Brenda), Kent (Cindy), and Ryan;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Lilian
Nernberger; his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Myrtle Krug; and his
father-in-law, Bradley Colby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Neil’s family to be designated at a
later date.
