Gordon, Marie H. (Meyers) (1917* - 13 FEB 2010)
Marie H. (Meyers) Gordon, aged 92, passed on February 13, 2010, from this
earthly body to join her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert H. Gordon, who has
waited since 2001 for her arrival.
Marie was born in 1917, as the third child of Martin and Anna Meyers, and was
raised in the rural north woods of Jump River. She is survived by a sister,
Matilda (Tillie) Stendel of Menomonie, WI.
They were married in Jump River, WI, on December 28, 1941. They worked together
to build a full life and home in Eau Claire, WI. They had five children to fill
the house.
Marie was teaching school in Jump River in 1940 when she met Bob Gordon, of
Chetek, WI. They were married in 1941, and the war effort brought them from Jump
River to eventually live in Eau Claire. Marie passed along her desire for
education as she encouraged her children and grandchildren to be willing to
learn new things. She raised a family through poor times with a richness of a
big garden. She encouraged us that things were possible when we worked together.
Marie was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church congregation and a
member of the Lois Circle Ladies group. She felt a strong connection to God as a
source of strength and guidance. She always reminded us that "God doesn't make
junk!" She joined the Grace Lutheran Al-Anon Thursday group and became a
treasured longtime member for her smile and support. She was an enthusiastic
card player who was always ready to join in.
Marie lived the final stages of her life at the Country Terrace of Altoona
residence center and The Rose Cottage at The Clairemont in Eau Claire. The
family extends their gratitude to Vicki and her staff at Country Terrace and the
staff at the Rose Cottage and Northwest Hospice for their patient and loving
care. The family says a special thank-you to those friends who kept their weekly
visit with Marie to the end of her life.
Marie is survived by her children, Milo Gordon, of Colby WI, Jim and Barb
Gordon, of Altoona, WI, Linda Marie and William (Doc) Rogers, of Eau Claire,
Lorrie Gordon and Marty Watson of Seattle, WA, and Larry Gordon and Kathy Walker
of Twin Lakes, WI. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
They had a large and energetic family, and the house was frequently filled with
the happy noise of family and friends that were always welcomed and encouraged
to visit.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Claus and Martin, and sister Dora
Kochevar.
Her children invite friends and family to a Celebration of Life at St. John's
Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on Saturday. February 27, 2010. The church will be
open for visitation beginning at 11 a.m. until the service starts at 1:00 p.m.
Marie will rest next to Bob at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River.
The family suggests that memorials in Marie's name may be directed to St. John's
Lutheran Church Youth Program, 1804 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
Evergreen Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
