Nernberger, Neil F. (26 JAN 1967 - 2 NOV 2017)

Neil F. Nernberger, 50, departed this life on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Withee, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Family and friends are invited to pay respects at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, November 8, from 4 – 8 p.m. Per Neil’s wishes, the burial service on the following day will be private.

Serving as pall bearers will be Lynn Nernberger, Todd Nernberger, Kent Nernberger, Ryan Nernberger, Kevin Purdy and Jason Hanson.

Neil was born on January 26, 1967 to Kenneth and Marian (Krug) Nernberger. He graduated from Medford Area Senior High School in 1985. Neil was most recently employed as a Maintenance Technician at Grassland Dairy Products, Inc in Greenwood. Following in his family’s tradition, Neil was proud to have honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard.

Prior to Grassland, Neil was employed at Weather Shield Windows & Doors in Medford, where he met the love of his life, Shanna Colby. They were married on October 21, 2000 and were blessed with two loving children, Alexis and Damian.

Neil excelled at his job and was committed to working hard. Outside of work, his family was his focus and he immensely enjoyed spending his free time with them, including attending school and sports activities. He also enjoyed ‘tinkering’ in his shed and watching the Brewers and Packers. He was fond of the occasional game of golf, and while never admitting it, was very good at it. He was the undisputed master of the game ‘Catch Phrase’ and delighted in meeting monthly with his friends for ‘game night’.

Neil was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Lilian Nernberger, his maternal grandparents Frederick and Myrtle Krug and his father-in-law, Bradley Colby.

He is survived by his wife, Shanna; his children: Alexis, Damian and Jacob (Kendall); his parents: Kenneth and Marian (Krug) Nernberger; his mother-in-law: Dorothy Colby; his brothers: Lynn (Mary), Todd (Brenda), Kent (Cindy), Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Neil’s family to be designated at a later date.
