Nevala, Shirley M. (24 JUN 1925 – 5 NOV 2017)
Shirley M. Nevala, age 92, of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at
Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp. Per Shirley's wishes, no services will be
held. .Private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Withee at a later
date.
Shirley May Beyreis was born on June 24, 1925 in rural Dorchester, WI, the
daughter of Ernest and Blanche (Kayhart) Beyreis. She was educated at various
elementary schools and attended Loyal High School. After completing her
education, Shirley worked as a telephone operator and as a cook for several
years. She was united in marriage to Ray Nevala on January 16, 1946 at the
Methodist Church parsonage in Marshfield. Shirley spent the next 33 years as a
mother, homemaker, and farmwife.
She had many interests, but especially enjoyed gardening, working in her
strawberry beds, growing flowers, and bird watching. Most of all, she enjoyed
spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her
great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee.
She is survived by her 3 children: Lynn Nevala of Thorp, Nancy Graski of Withee,
and Susan Nevala (Beth Hancock) of Milwaukee; 5 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Joyce Bombach of
Neillsville and Gale Zorman of Spencer; 1 godchild: Shaun Graski; nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray Nevala, on March
16, 1996; her son-in-law: Alvin Graski; 1 brother: Verlyn Beyreis and 1 sister:
Phyllis Loos.
