Grottke, Walter Ernest (3 April 1901 – 5 September 1974)
Funeral services were held Monday, September 9, from St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church for Walter Ernest Grottke, Rt. 3 Neillsville, who died September
5 at the age of 73. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated, and burial was made
in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral
Home.
Walter Grottke, the son of Ernest and Anna (Scharf) Grottke, was born April 3,
1901, in Clark County, and attended local schools. He was active in the dairy
industry all his life, operating the Neillsville Dairy for many years and
working at various cheese factories, and was employed at the Neillsville Milk
Products Cooperative for the eight years preceding his retirement.
His marriage to the former Evelyn Kalsow took place April 21, 1946, in
Neillsville. Mr. Grottke was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Vicki)
Bauer, Fairbanks, Ak., and Mrs. Thomas (Gloria) Cummisford, Milwaukee; two
sisters, Miss Alma Grottke, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Faune (Ida) Durni, Merrillan;
four brothers, William Grottke, Sauk City, Ben Grottke, Marshfield, Herbert
Grottke, Merrillan, and Arnold Grottke, Platteville; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roger Grottke, Ronald Kalsow, Jeff and Jim Cummisford, and Gary
and Allen Sternitzky.
Edward Schoenherr sang “Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me’ and “The Lord’s My
Shepherd.” Victor Lehmann was the organist.
