Briggs, James Keith (7 January 1897 – 10 September 1974)

Funeral services are to be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home for James Keith Briggs, 77, of Humbird, who died Tuesday, September 10, in Neillsville following a brief illness. The Rev. William Noble of the United Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will follow in the Town of Mentor Cemetery.

James Briggs was born January 7, 1897, in Cedar Falls to Howard and Harriet (Neville) Briggs. As a young boy, he moved to the Humbird area where he received his education.

Mr. Briggs entered military service April 7, 1916, and served in Europe with Company A of the 138th Infantry. He was discharged as a sergeant on May 19, 1919, and worked in California as a longshoreman for a time before returning to Wisconsin. He was an employee of the Northern States Power Company for many years. Mr. Briggs was a member of Melchor-Matti American Legion Post No. 320 at Humbird.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Briggs, Eau Claire, two nieces, Mrs. Keith (Blanche) Fox, and Mrs. Florian (Gloria) Dziuk, both of Eau Claire, and one nephew, Kenneth Briggs, Chippewa Falls.
