Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Ashbeck are the parents of a daughter, Karen Faye, born
September 11, at a Marshfield hospital. This is their first child. Grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ashbeck of Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald McFarlane
of Willard.

The Young Couple’s Leadership Conference, held April 8 – 9, 1876 in Wausau, was
designed to build the future leaders of cooperatives by giving them some
specialized training in cooperative principles and practices. During the two-day
conference, 18 couples gained some practical experience in how cooperatives
operate, and learned more about the co-op’s special function in the community.
They also had an opportunity to meet and share ideas with other young people
with like interests.
Donna and Edward Alger, Route 2, Thorp, received a certificate of completion
from Glenn Anderson, Executive Secretary, Wisconsin Federations of Cooperatives,
at the close of the event. The Algers were sponsored by Production Credit
Association in Neillsville.

Kuehni, James (28 Apr 1958 – 15 May 1976)
James Kuehni, 18, Ashland, Wisconsin, died early Saturday morning as a result of
an automobile accident near Ashland.
He was born April 28, 1958 in Stanley, the son of Gordon and Irene (Horounzaik)
Kuehni and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Horounzaik of Thorp. He is also
survived by three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Ashland, with
burial being made in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Biddle, Melvin & Mabel (Gold – 12 Apr 1976)
The Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary of Melvin (Midge) and Mabel Biddle was
celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 1976. A dinner and reception were held from
3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Thorp, Wisconsin.
Approximately one hundred guests attended. Guests were from Milwaukee, La
Crosse, Gilman, West Allis, South Milwaukee, Stanley, Chippewa Falls, Norwalk,
Winger and Greenwood, South Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Biddle (Mrs. Biddle was the former Mabel Flora), were married on
April 12, 1926 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
Attendants were Lilah Flora of Stanley, sister of the bride, and James Biddle of
Thorp, brother of the groom. The Biddles lived in the Eidsvold, Clark County
area for the first 22 years of marriage. They moved to South Milwaukee in 1948,
and now reside at 905 ½ Minnesota Avenue in that same city.
They have two children, Mrs. Robert (Colleen) Herman of Thor and Galen Biddle of
Greenwood, South Carolina. They also have eight grandchildren and 9
great-grandchildren.

Celine Gau and Dale Danielewicz were united in a marriage ceremony at Holy Name
Catholic Church, Wausau, Wisconsin. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Gau, Wausau and Mr. and Mrs. Zigmund Danielewicz of Thorp.
Mrs. Frank P. Iczkowski, Jr., sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and
bridesmaids were Rita Joan Gau, sister of the bride, Melissa Danielewicz, sister
of the groom, and Judy Jacobi, friend of the bride.
Attending the groom were Dennis Danielewicz, brother of the groom, as best man,
and Robert Gau, brother of the bride, Jerry Witucki, and Chuck Alger, friends of
the groom, as groomsmen. Ushers were Fran Iczkowski, brother-in-law of the
bride, and Jack Budzinski, cousin of the groom.
A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Colonial Ballroom, Wausau.
The bride is a graduate of Newman High School in Wausau in 1966, and is employed
in the engineering department of Marathon Electric Manufacturing Company, Wausau
The groom is a 1967 graduate of Thorp High School and a 1969 graduate of
District One Technical Institute, Eau Claire, with a marketing degree in
marketing, and is employed at Wausau Home, Inc., Wausau. They will make their
home at Cut Off Road, Schofield, Wisconsin.

Two commencement ceremonies will be held at the University of Wisconsin, Eau
Claire on Saturday, May 22, 1976 in the University Arena. The 9:30 a.m. ceremony
is for graduates of the Schools of Business and Education, and those receiving
Master’s Degrees, and the 2 p.m. ceremony is for graduates in Arts and Science,
and in Nursing.
A total of 886 persons will receive degrees during the Commencement Day: from
the School of Business, 197; from the School of Education, 258; on the Master’s
Degree, 43; from the School of Arts and Sciences, 311, and from the School of
Nursing, 77.
Jean Marie Keating, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Keating, Thorp, will receive
a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, with a major in Comprehensive
Public Accounting. Keating is a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi and
the historian of the Beta Upsilon Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Dr. Theodore Mitau, Chancellor of the Minnesota State University System, will
deliver the Commencement address at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls on
Sunday, May 23, 1976, at 2 p.m. in the Melvin Wall Amphitheatre.
David Sackmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Sackmann, Route 2, Thorp, will
receive a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Degree with a major in animal
science. Sackmann will be awarded Special Honors, granted to graduate with a
3.75 honor point ratio for the last two years of study.
Jeannie Maslowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maslowski, Route 1, Thorp,
will receive the Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in Journalism and
American Studies. Maslowski will be awarded Special Honors with a 3.75 honor
point ration for the past two years of study.
John Nied, Route 3, Thorp, will receive a Bachelor of Science Degree with a
major in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Nied will be awarded the Senior
Gold "R", presented to graduates who have a 3.50 honor ration and no grade below
a “C” for the last two years.

Monday, May 17, 1976, the Grade School Gym in Thorp was the scene for the Junior
Girl Scout’s Annual Award Night. Parents, friends and relatives were invited to
watch the 4th grade scouts put on a skit entitled “Daddy’s Whiskers”. The 5th
grade scouts chose a choral reading entitled “Down in the Hollow”. The 6th grade
scouts selected a few songs to harmonize to.
Jean Wacker, our neighborhood chairman, presented the Sign of the Arrow and the
Sign of the Star to Dawn Andruszkiewicz, Theresa Aronson, Carried Brunett, Kathy
Ciolkosz, Heidi Hoffman and Kim Jacque. This is the highest achievement a Junior
Girl Scout can earn. In the fall, these girls will be accepted into the Cadette
Troop.
Afer Lucy Hoffman, our Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, presented us with a check for
our share of the Girl Scout cookies that we sold, an assortment of cake, cookies
and bars were served with coffee for adults and milk for the children.
The color guards retired the colors, bringing the evening to a close.

Mrs. Gertrude Swanson was honored at a banquet given by the Marshfield Teachers
Association Saturday evening, May 15, 1976 at the Elks Lodge banquet room in
Marshfield.
She was given a Teachers Recognition Plaque, having completed “40 years of
dedicated service in the field of education.” In addition she was given a
beautiful gift for her home and a piece of jewelry.
Mrs. Swanson taught the past twelve years in Marshfield. Although Mrs. Swanson
had several years of teaching left, she decided to spend the time in traveling
and in her home in Thorp.
