Dill, Lydia Martha (10 June 1888 – 13 September 1974)
Mrs. Lydia Martha Dill, 86, of Greenwood died at 10 a.m. Friday morning at a
Marshfield hospital, where she had been taken early that morning, following a
stroke.
Mrs. Dill, the former Lydia Kuester, daughter of Gottlieb and Wilhemina (Reinke)
Kuester was born June 10, 1888, northwest of Greenwood. She was married
September 16, 1911 to Julius Dill at the West Side Reformed Church. She lived
most of her life in Greenwood. She was a member of the Zion United Church of
Christ, and the Wallis-Hinker American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
Surviving are four sons, Gottlieb of Milwaukee, Gilbert of Grafton, Henry of
Chicago, and Harvey at home; and four daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Alberta) Thomas
of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Adolph (Anita) Abel of Greenwood, Mrs. Louis (Beulah)
Matkovich of Willard; and Mrs. Harold (Julia) Mitte of Neillsville; also 18
grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Norbert Kuester of
Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and William Kuester, and one
sister, Mrs. Albert (Ella) Fravert.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 16 at 2 p.m. in the Zion United
Church of Christ. The Rev. David Logue officiated. Burial was mde in the
Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Mitte, Michael Mitte, Nick Matkovich, Gary Abel, Jack
Abel, and Tom Abel (all grandsons). Gary Schultz sang, “In the Garden” and
“Nearer my God to Thee” with Mrs. Gary Schultz as organist.
