Kronberger, Mr./Mrs. Leo (Gold – 14 FEB 1973)

On a cold and windy day on February 14, 1923, Lulu Benedict, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Benedict of York (Clark Co., Wis.), and Leo Kronberger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kronberger, also of York, were married at the bride's parents' home. To honor the couple on their golden wedding anniversary, about 125 friends and relatives gathered at the religious education building in Loyal this past Sunday for an open house and an anniversary supper.

Due to the bad weather condition on their wedding day, the Rev. E.A. Knaak, Fred Methodist Church, substituted for the Rev. Walter T. Scott from the Methodist Church in Neillsville. During the ceremony, after the minister noticed no music was being played. Mrs. Kronberger played on the organ, "Blessed Be the Tie That Binds."

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Spokeville area, operating a dairy farm, and each spring tapped approximately 1,500 maple trees for syrup. In 1926 they moved to a farm in the Loyal area, and three years later to his parents' home in the Township of York. In 1933 they purchased the farm they now live on, but the buildings and farm has been sold, except for the house and one acre of land.

Mr. Kronberger, born March 27, 1904, enjoys sewing, crocheting, tending a flower garden and quilting. Many years ago she started a collection of dolls and enjoys working on them.

Leo Kronberg, born July 20, 1892, along with farming, was a blacksmith, repairman, and building. He still has his blacksmith shop with forge and modern wedding equipment. He served for 28 months with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I, in France, England and Germany. Since his return to Loyal, he has become a member of the American Legion Post #175. During his retirement he continues to enjoy summer and winter fishing, traveling as far as La Crosse. He also enjoyed the sport of deer hunting, and possesses many hunting trophies.

The Kronbergers have six children, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy), Loyal; Ivan Kronberger, Marshfield; Mrs. George (Betty) Pabich, Austin, Texas; Wayne Kronberger, Neillsville; Mrs. Norbert (Jean) Lavey, Nekoosa, and Jerry Kronberg, Wisconsin Rapids. They have 28 grandchildren.
