Buettner, Kay Venetta (26 September 1939 - 2 December 2017)

Kay Venetta Buettner, 78, of Granton, passed away December 3, 2017 at Neillsville Care and Rehab.

She was born September 26, 1939 in Viroqua, the youngest child of William Harley and Teo (Gower) Crume. The family relocated to Neillsville, where Kay attended Neillsville public School and met the love of her life, Jim Buettner. They were married June 30, 1956 in Winona, MN. They moved to their home in the Township of Lynn in 1965. Kay continued to live there until November 2016 when she moved to Neillsville Care and Rehab.

Kay loved to sew, knit, and do many other crafts. For the most part, she taught herself to do all these things. She lived by the creed “if there’s a will, there’s a way.” She didn’t wait for someone else to do something if she could figure out how to do it herself. The size of the task or the difficulty in accomplishing it didn’t stop her. In addition to sewing clothes and quilts, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery, she learned to do re-upholstery, wall-papering, and floor refinishing. Kay used her sewing and kitting skills to make clothes, quilts, and home décor for her family and others. She had a home sewing business for manty years, and ran a quilt shop out of her home. She enjoyed teaching others to sew, and make quilts as well. More recently, she spent her kays knitting sweater wraps which she freely gave to the recipients as her contribution to the Warm Up America campaign.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim (James) Buettner, her parents, her husband’s parents, sisters: Catherine (Richard) Dennison, Lois (Ray) DeLap, Joyce (Gene) Steinkrauss, Carol (Ed) Campbell, Joan (Charles) Alexander, brother Harlan Crume, and her youngest child, Jim Allen Buettner.

She is survived by her children Cindy (Tim) Keller of Lublin, Mike (Sharon) Buettner of Granton, Annette (Paul) Drescher of Neillsville; grandchildren Venetta (Brent) Mathison of Thorp, Lois (Shannon) Walters of Stanley, Holly (Levi) Sprinkle of Stanley, Megan (Jordan) Vizer of Cadott, Thea (Larry) Sorensen of Sturgeon Bay, Isaac Scheel of Medford, Julie (Justin) Soost of Mankato, MN, Andy (Amanda) Buettner of West Fargo, ND, Everett (Rachelle) Buettner of Neillsville, and step-granddaughter Paige (Bradley) Bianca of Florence, MS; and great-grandchildren: Kyler, Alana, Easton, Kaylina, and Avaya Walters, Samuel and Rose Sprinkle, Derick and Samantha Vizer, Ryan and Larry Sorensen, Jr. Alan Scheel, Jayda Bottlemy, Gage Buettner, and step-great-grandchildren: McKayden, Connor, Malachi, and Olivia Bianca. Sisters-in-law also survive her, Jacqueline (Herman) Strangfeld, and Dianne (Bill) Buettner of Neillsville.

As per Kay’s wishes no services are planned.
