Harold G. “Sonny” Kalepp, age 83, of Abbotsford, passed away on Wednesday, Nov.
29, 2017, at The Waterford in Colby, under the tender care of Aspirus Comfort
Care and Hospice Services.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Christ
Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. The Rev. Dr. Gary Paul will preside. Family and
friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the
church.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the
arrangements.
Sonny was born on July 30, 1934, in Abbotsford, the son of Harold and Lucille (Bunnell)
Kalepp, Sr. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1952. On Oct. 30, 1954,
he was united in marriage to Norma Wilson at Christ Lutheran Church, and
recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Sonny was a lifelong member
of Christ Lutheran Church.
Sonny and his father started Kalepp Bros. Oil Company in 1954. Sonny ran that
business until retirement in 1996. After retirement, Sonny enjoyed having coffee
at Abby Café with his friends, until his health declined. Sonny also enjoyed
keeping his lawn mowed and car cleaned. Most importantly he enjoyed time with
his family, especially his four great-grandchildren.
Sonny was a charter member of the Abbotsford Jaycees, a member of the Abbotsford
Fire Department, and the Abbotsford Lion’s Club, and served nine years in the
Army National Guard.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Norma; two sons, Kim (Margo) of Madison, and
Kevin (Donna) of Westboro; four grandchildren, Nathan (Diana), Ryan (Melissa),
Mackenzie (Brett) Valentyn and Griffin (fiancé, Alisha Janquart); and four
great-grandchildren, Kasen, Lily, Willa and Violet. He is further survived by a
sister-in-law, Susie Kalepp of Abbotsford; nieces and nephews; other relatives
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald “Peanuts” and
DuWayne “Wiener”; and a sister, Jane.
The family would like to thank Aspirus at Home and Hospice, for the wonderful
services they gave Sonny, especially Mary and Bev and Pastor Don Bruce.
