Dennis Ward Larson was born on July 23, 1921 in the Town of Beaver, rural Loyal,
the son of Richard E. and Martha C. (Schultz) Larson. He was raised on his
family's farm and received his education in the Loyal area, graduating from
Loyal High School in 1940. After completing his education, Dennis attended the
University of Wisconsin Farm Short Course in Madison. He was united in marriage
to Elsie B. Anderson on October 25, 1947 in Chicago, IL. From 1951-54, they
lived in the Eau Claire and Merrill areas. Dennis & Elsie bought his parents
farm and operated that until retiring in 1996. When his health declined in 2005,
he moved in with Don, Millie, and their children and lived with them until
August of this year, when he entered the House of the Dove. He thoroughly
enjoyed watching all of the wild life that the Black River offered when they
moved to their new home in Greenwood in 2015.
He served on the Clark County Community Services Board for over 30 years, was a
past-president of the Clark County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, and was
an active member in the Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association and the Clark
County Interbreed Association. Dennis and his late wife, Elsie, were
instrumental in starting ADS in Greenwood. Dennis had a passion for planting
trees and many of trees at the Loyal Community Park came from his farm.
Dennis was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school
until his health no longer allowed him to.
He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and
friends, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, golfing, bird watching,
and playing many board games, especially chess.
Dennis will be dearly missed by his three children: David (Sheila) Larson of
John's Island, SC, Rebecca (Dale) Warren of Greenwood, Donald (Millie) Larson of
Greenwood; nine grandchildren: Chris Larson, Courtney (Paul) Egen, Jessica (Paul
) Kayhart, Allison (Ben) Kunhart, Sara Warren, Dr. Joshua (Anne) Larson, Dennis
Larson, Morgan Larson, and Charles Larson; eleven great-grandchildren; one
sister: Julie (Earl) Schamehorn of Redlands, CA; two brothers-in-law: Elmer
Powers of Silver Creek, NE, Don (Diane) Anderson of Wheaton, IL; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie, on July 28, 2002; one
brother: Richard Larson; and two sisters: Athalie Bennett and Kay Powers.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the House of the Dove. You clearly
were angels on earth prepping Dad for the angels in heaven!
