Schmidt, Arlon R. (18 DEC 1931 - 7 DEC 2017)

Arlon R. Schmidt, 85, town of Stettin, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at his home.

He was born Dec. 18, 1931, on the family farm, son of the late Walter and Lydia (Krueger) Schmidt. On June 7, 1952, he married the love of his life, Delphine Steidinger, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Stettin. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2017.

Arlon attended Marathon High School and following his marriage to Delphine, they worked together on their dairy farm in Stettin and grew ginseng for almost 40 years. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed playing sheepshead, drinking a cold Miller beer and dining out with Delphine. Arlon loved logging and working in the woods and spent many peaceful hours in his Caterpillar.

Arlon was very faithful and generous in many ways and was a lifelong member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include one daughter, Candyce (Waine) Krautkramer, Marathon; three granddaughters, Shannon (Joel) Berens, Marathon, Holly Springfield, Memphis, Tenn., and Rachel (Ryan) Erdmann, Eagan, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Owen, Reece, Vance, Vivian and Jordy; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Steidinger, Marathon, and Angie Schmidt, Wausau.

Besides his parents and wife Delphine, he was preceded in death by one brother, Orville Schmidt; and two sisters, Adeline Radtke and Murella Goetsch.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. Rev. Philip Bogen presided. Burial was in the Stettin Christian Cemetery.

Friends called on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. There was a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
