Truax, Violet R. (Sweet) (8 JAN 1907 - 21 FEB 1987)
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 25, 1987, at the
Gilman Funeral Home for Mrs. Violet R. Truax, 80, Gilman, a former Hannibal
resident who died Saturday evening at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Rev. Ray Robinson, Minocqua, will officiate and burial will take place in the
Hannibal Cemetery.
The body lay in state at the Gilman Funeral Home.
The former Violet Sweet, daughter of the late Charles and Rosa (Roberts) Sweet,
was born January 8, 1907, at Greentop, MO, and moved in 1920 with her parents to
Hannibal. Her marriage to Lorum Truax, who preceded her in death March 9, 1976,
took place September 9, 1921, at Medford.
After their marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Hannibal area until
1942, when they moved to Detroit, Mich., residing there until 1959 when they
returned to the Hannibal area. In 1977 Mrs. Truax moved to the village of Gilman
where she lived until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Sheldon American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving her are a son, Kenneth, Gilman; three daughters, Marian, Mrs. Guy
Hubbard, Watertown, S. Dak., Betty, Mrs. Robert Morris and Mrs. Beverly Slaby,
both of Gilman; a sister, Esther Sweet, St. Louis, Mo., 16 grandchildren and 30
great grandchildren.
Four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter also preceded her in death.
