Wood, Marcella "Sally" M. (Morel) (22 JAN 1923 - 2 JUN 2014)

Marcella "Sally" M. Wood, age 91, of Gilman, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cornell Area Care Center. Marcella was born on January 22, 1923, at home in Manau township, Kansas, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Knipp) Morel.

She grew up in Kansas, attending area schools and continued her education to become an LPN. She then worked at Hayes Kansas Hospital. On March 4, Read More 1943, she was united in marriage to Daniel Wood in Denver, Colo. In the fall of 1945, they moved to the town of Pershing where they purchased a farm, residing there and raising their family. Marcella was a longtime member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. Marcella had a great love for sports, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Badgers basketball fan.

Marcella is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Tom) Izdepski of Conrath, Diane (Darrell) Gago of Tony, and Debra (Jay) Sands of Ojibwa; four sons, Allen (Karen) Wood of Curtiss, Patrick (Nora) Wood of Eau Claire, and Dale Wood and Kurt Wood, both of Gilman; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Catherine Morel, both of Kansas and Pat Samplawski, of Montana.

Marcella is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel in 1983; two sons, Ronald and Gregory; great-granddaughter, Kassidy Nyhus; two sisters, Mary Blanchard and Maxine Brown; and four brothers, Cleo, Raymond, Alphie and Melvin "Bill" Morel.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, with Father Madanu Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow in the Donald Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gilman Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to service time at the church.
