With today's newspaper the Thorp Courier starts its eighty-eighth year of
publication.
The first issue of this newspaper came out on November 21, 1883, with Wm. Wagner
Sr., as its founder, editor and publisher until May 1943, when it was taken over
by the late Wm. S. Wagner, until March 1965, at his death being taken over by
John J. LaGasse and Robert E. Elkins.
This establishment is the oldest in the Thorp community and has progressed with
the times from a circulation of about 500 subscribers to the present total of
3,000.
The Courier has on its lists many subscribers who have been constant readers for
many years, and some who have received the newspaper a lifetime, and to these
and the loyal advertisers who have patronized the newspaper, the publication
owes its existence.
With such support, the Courier can't go wrong and will continue to serve the
people of Thorp and vicinity in the future to the best of its ability and
benefit to all.
