Nosbisch, Lavern C. (8 JUL 1927 - 26 DEC 2017)

Lavern C. Nosbisch, age 90, of Abbotsford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Country Terrace in Abbotsford under the tender care of hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Mary of Help of Christian Catholic Parish in Colby. Father Charles Hiebl will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church.

Lavern was born on July 8, 1927, the son of Michael and Christina (Brost) Nosbisch, north of Edgar. He attended school in Edgar and Colby. On June 15, 1963, Lavern was united in marriage to Pearl Apfelbeck at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby. She preceded him in death in 2010.

Lavern farmed with his Dad, logged and cut wood for pulp (he claimed to have the first chain saw in the area) He also worked construction including building tollways in Illinois, and building his own house and hunting cabin. Lavern and a friend also went to Cook, MN and cut logs and helped build five cabins and the main lodge and went fishing every night. Lavern also worked at Lulloff Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Colby, before working at Packaging Corporation of America in Colby for 26 years.

Lavern enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. He especially enjoyed being in the woods and cutting firewood. Lavern also had planted 500 Christmas trees and sold and gave them away. Most importantly, he cherished his family.

Lavern is survived by two children: Dan (Kris) Nosbisch of Colby and Catherine (Pete) Coppersmith of St. Paul, MN; one grandson, Mitch of Stratford; a sister, Alvera Gottschalk of Pewaukee; two sisters-in-law: Monica Biter of New Auburn and Genevieve (Alvin) Abegglen of Stetsonville; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; two sisters and one brother: Florentina Nosbisch, Lavona (Victor) Reigel and Vincent (Bernie) Nosbisch; and a brother-in-law, Arnie Gottschalk.

Lavern's family would like to thank the staff at Country Terrace for the wonderful job they did helping Vern the past 2 1/2 years.

Any Memorials in Lavern's name can be contributed to St. Mary Church or School.
