Lukes, Gary (Award - 1974)

Gary Lukes, a senior at Neillsville High School, was recently notified that he is to be featured in the eighth annual edition of “Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 1973-74,” the largest student award publication in the nation.

Students from over 20,000 public, private, and parochial high schools throughout the country are recognized for their leadership in academics, athletics, activities, or community service. Less than three percent of the junior and senior class students nationwide are awarded this recognition.

Gary is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lukes of Neillsville. At Neillsville High School, he is active in the Spanish National Honor Society, and in forensics, is president of the National Honor Society, vice president of the “N” Club, president of the student council, treasurer of the Spanish Club, and sports editor of the school annual. He has also participated in basketball, been named most valuable player of the 1974 baseball season, attended Badger Boys State, and served as president of his freshman class.

In addition to having his biography published in the book, Gary will also compete for one of ten scholarship awards of $500 to $1,000 funded by the publishers, and will be invited to participate in the firm’s annual “survey of high achievers.”

He plans to pursue a career in the field of optometry.
