Clinton, Arthur R. (3 May 1885 – 3 October 1974)
A Neillsville native, Arthur R. Clinton, of Arkdale, died October 3 at the
Veterans Administration Hospital in Milwaukee at the age of 89. He had entered
the hospital August 24 of this year.
Funeral services were held Monay from the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev.
William Noble of the United Methodist Church officiating, with burial in the
Neillsville City Cemetery.
Arthur Clinton, the son of George and Stella (Rodman) Clinton, was born May 3,
1885, in Neillsville, and was educated in schools here and in Illinois. The
family returned to Clark County when mr. Clinton was 17 years old.
During his lifetime, mr. Clinton operated a restaurant and in later years, did
painting. He was an Army veteran of WWI. His first marriage was to the former
Martha Fischer, who preceded him in death. His second wife, the former Mary H.
Root, died in 1969. Since that time, he had made his home with his children.
Surviving are five children: Mrs. Hugh (Beulah) Wildish of Merrillan, Lawrence
Clinton of Waukegan, Il., Mrs. Charles (Cecelia) Schultz of Denver, Co., Mrs.
William (Agnes) Nagel of Arkdale, and Robert Clinton of Milwaukee; and nine
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Albert (Pete) Smith. Emil Hauri, Fred McIntyre, and John Nagel.
Among those attended the services were the following from out of town: Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh Wildish, Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Carr and son, and Glen Rodman, Waukegan, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. John Nagel and
Jennifer, and Mrs. Mildred Hallgren, Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clinton,
Milwaukee.
