Davis, Anne Catherine (Hoogland) (23 JUL 1916 - 6 JAN 2018)
Anne Catherine Davis, 101, died at Lakeside Villa on Saturday, January 6, 2018,
while under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 23, 1916, the daughter of John and
Anna Hoogland. She moved to the family farm in Catawba when she was just four
years old. She is the oldest of seven children. She attended classes up through
the eighth grade at Northfork School. Following her schooling she moved to
Chicago where she was employed as a domestic worker in private homes. She was
married to Al Davis on May 11, 1957, in Catawba. The couple took many trips to
Canada fishing with family and friends including her mom and dad who were avid
fishermen.
She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church of Prentice and prior
to that was a 24 year member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Allegan,
MI. She was a life-long Cubs fan, enjoyed writing letters to family and friends,
and enjoyed reading up until the day that she died. Every week she looked
forward to receiving her copy of the BEE to keep up with current events in the
community. She could not believe that she lived this long, and many have been
touched in some way with the good deeds she bestowed on them throughout her
life.
She is survived by two sisters, Catherine (Martin) Marlenga and Dorothy (Marvin)
Burcaw; by one sister-in-law, Lois Hoogland; by many nieces and nephews; and by
a loving step family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, on August
6, 2006; and is also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Walter, Matthew,
and Jerome Hoogland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 10, at Saint
Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba with Father Gerald Hagen and Father
Ron Levra concelebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Catawba
Cemetery in Catawba in the Spring. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday
from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services.
