Nagel, Dorothy M. (Heim) (19 DEC 1922 - 10 JAN 2018)
Dorothy M. Nagel, 95, formerly of Jump River, died on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018
at Country Terrace of Ladysmith under the care of Hope Hospice.
Dorothy was a twin girl born on Dec. 19, 1922 in Livingston, Ill. the daughter
of the late Theodore and Laura (Mitchler) Heim. She was the youngest of five
children, and she grew up during the depression in Livingston and graduated from
Livingston High School. She married John Nagel on Feb. 15, 1948. The couple
moved to the Nagel family farm in the Jump River area in 1952.
She lived a full life and enjoyed travel. She had many friends in Jump River and
also liked to visit her numerous Heim relatives in Southern Illinois. She also
went moose hunting many times in northern British Colombia in the Pink Mountain
area.
She was an animal lover; raising many dogs, cats, horses and even a baby raccoon
named “Rackie” who loved to suck her thumb like a pacifier. She loved to play
but hated to lose at cards.
Dorothy is survived by her children, John Roger (Phyllis) Nagel of Bruce, Robert
(Carol) Nagel, Scott (Melanie) Nagel and Nancy (Galen) Story, all of Sheldon,
Laura Lynn (Richard) Culver of Pardeeville and Theodore (Patricia) Nagel of
Cornell; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, who passed away on
Nov. 10, 2000; her brothers, Kenneth and Robert Heim and her sisters, Helen May
and Doris Van Hooser.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 at New Hope
Presbyterian Church-Hannibal with Pastor Beverly Thompson officiating. Burial
will follow in Mount Nebo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Gilman Funeral Home and
Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
Plombon Funeral Home in Gilman is assisting with the arrangements.
