Qualheim, Richard L. “Dick” (1930? - 14 JAN 2018)

Richard L. “Dick” Qualheim 88, of Eau Claire, WI, was called home to be with our Lord in heaven on January 14, 2018 at Lake Hallie Memory Care.

Richard was born in Stanley WI and graduated from Hannibal High School. He joined the Army in 1948, serving in the 88th Airborne; 11th Airborne as Sergeant of AAA Battery “The Rakkasans” 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team as Wire Chief for the Communication Section in Combat Korea, Staff Sergeant.

Richard worked for Wisconsin Bell/AT & T in Eau Claire WI. After retirement he was President of the local Vacationland Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was active in the VFW Post 305 as Post Commander and a variety of other positions. He was instrumental in starting Lake Hallie Youth Hockey Association in 1971.

A spiritual person, Richard was extremely strong in his Christian Faith. He embodied what a true Christian is: kind, loving, fair, honest and prayerful. He loved God, family, country and his passion ran deep for his favorite football team – the Green Bay Packers!

He loved spending summers at Blueberry Hill on Blueberry Lake. Richard’s heart would swell with joy and pride whenever he was spending time with his wife Betty, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing for bass with his favorite bait the “Purple worm”.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty; Children: Penny Johnson (Mark), Debbie Chickering (Chris), Judy Ferber (Bill) and Richard Qualheim (Mary): 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; his sister Beverly and brother Gerald.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruth; sister Betty and brothers Robert and William.

Visitation and Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire.
