Matheson, Arne (Retires - 1974)
Arne “Bunny” Matheson, formerly of Neillsville and now of Waukesha, retired,
with finality, September 23, after completing 33 years, eight months, and two
weeks of service with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Except for
approximately eight and one-half years, his service was with the Neillsville
Guard Unit.
He was a member of the *3rd Aviation Assault company, West Bend, and worked as a
parts clerk (general supply assistant) at the Richard St. armory in Milwaukee.
His co-workers honored him with a Farewell party September 27, where they
presented him with an eight-track tape deck, a commemorative mug with the Red
Arrow and Bucky Badger symbols, and the Great Seal of the United States done in
pewter, which will be engraved with his name and service dates. He had a total
of 14 years of service as a guard technician.
It was an enlisted man “first” in Wisconsin when Bunny received his first
retirement check in spring of 1973 while remaining in the Wisconsin Army
National Guard.
The Matheson’s plan to travel extensively in the West this winter, and do some
Airstream caravanning next year. Mrs. Matheson is the former Agnes Evenson of
Neillsville.
