Bauer, Albert J. (3 April 1928-14 February 2009)

MADISON - Albert J. Bauer, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb. He was born to William and Caroline Bauer on April 3, 1928, in Colby, Wisconsin

Following graduation from Colby High School, he entered the Navy and continued his education at Whitewater College. Al married Betty Jones of Dodgeville in 1950 and lived in Rockford, Ill., until his retirement from Atwood Vacuum and Machine Co.

Upon retirement, Al and Betty resided at their Lake Wisconsin home. Betty preceded Al in death in 1996. In 2005, he moved to the All Saints Senior Residential Community in Madison, where he was most recently under the care of the excellent "Ruby" team of Hospice Care Inc. and the Dr. David Hei nursing team at the Paul Carbone Center.

Al was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and William; and sister, Regina. He will be met in heaven by God and many other extended family members awaiting him with open arms.
Al is survived by his son, Bill (Daun) Bauer and daughter, Tammy (Gary) Retelle of Madison; grandchildren, Stephanie and Carley Retelle and Todd and Bethany Bauer; sisters, Margaret Hollman, Marie Jastrow and Julia Bergner; his surviving in-laws, Harriett, Ralph, Charlene and Elmer; 68 nieces and nephews; and his dearest friends, Fran Hume and June Gander.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 515 Fair Street in Lodi. Father Francisco Higuera will officiate. Interment will be at Dekorra Lutheran Cemetery.
