Dasko, Helen (9 November 1921 – 17 January 2018)
Helen Dasko, age 96, of Neillsville, died Wednesday, January 17, at the
Neillsville Care and Rehab Center.
Helen Tichy was born on November 9, 1921 in Levis Township, the daugher of Alois
and Fanny (Pesava) Tichy. She grew up on the family farm and attended Meadow
View School.
After she left school she went to Chicago and worked as a housekeeper where she
met and married her first husband, Joseph Reznik (whom she later divorced).
Together they had two daughters Georgiana, and Charmaine. Helen worked in the
factory at the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago for over 34 years and retired in
May of 1982. While still working at Sunbeam she met and married her second
husband Andrew (Andy) Dasko. They often traveled to Neillsville to visit family
and friends and after they both retired they permanently moved back to the
Neillsville area.
Helen always kept busy. She worked at the Cranberry Marsh in Humbird several
seasons during the harvest. She also worked part time at the Morraine Motel
doing cleaning. Helen and Andy enjoyed traveling and made several trips to the
Czech Republic to visit relatives. Helen was fluent in the Czech language since
her parents spoke Czech at home while she was growing up. They made several
trips each year back to the Chicago Area to visit family and friends. They also
traveled extensively around the United States. She loved having family visit and
enjoyed friendly card games, playing board games, and working on puzzles.
Helen was an active member of the Neillsville Chapter of AARP where she held the
office of secretary and the Western Fraternal Life Association (WFLA) Lodge 303
and Lodge 408 where she held the office of President for many years. Helen was
also in a Czech singing group that entertained at different functions and she
was a Lifetime member of the Clark County Historical Society.
Helen loved dancing especially the Polka and Waltz and spent many hours dancing
the night away at the Silver Dome. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, canning, and
walking in the woods picking blueberries, raspberries, and mushrooms. When she
was no longer able to do a lot of the physical activities she sewed quilts,
worked on crafts, and enjoyed feeding and watching the deer and birds.
She is survived, by a daughter, Charmaine Reznik, a son-in-law, Herman Rohde
