Tews, Marian Tews (7 April 1927 – 22 January 2018)
Alice Marian Tews, age 90, of Neillsville, passed away peacefully at Sacred
Heart hospital in Eau Claire on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born in
Neillsville, on April 7, 1927, the daughter of Richard and Hattie (Meihack)
Beyer.
After graduating from Neillsville High School in 1944, she worked for the
Federal Government Assistance Office of Clark County. On September 16, 1950 she
married Edgar Tews at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Alice was a
stay-at-home mom until 1966 when she returned to work at the Clark County
Courthouse, working in the County Clerk’s office and then the County Treasurer’s
office, where she held the position of Deputy County Treasurer until her
retirement in 1991. After retirement she was a poll worker for many local,
county, state and federal elections.
Alice was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was
active in the Ladies Aid Society and was involved in several social,
fundraising, and administrative functions. Alice was also a 50-year member of
Hilltop Homemakers, where she was active in June Dairy Month, and Clark County
Fair events. She also helped organize annual trips to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.
In recent years she volunteered in the gift shop at the Memorial Medical Center
in Neillsville.
She and Edgar enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Her favorite times
were spent at gatherings with both the Tews and Beyer families. She will be
sadly missed by all who knew her. Everyone agreed, she was truly a sweet lady.
Alice is survived, by her children: Linda (Norm) Dodge of Eleva, Scott (Carol)
Tews of Neillsville, Mark (Raymond Griffis) Tews of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and
Paul (Cindy) Tews of Naples, FL; her grandchildren, Alex (Sadie Higley) Dodge of
Eleva, Ryan Tews of Neillsville, Adam (Nicole Berger) Dodge of Strum, and Kelley
Tews of Neillsville; brothers: Harold Beyer of Neillsville, and Robert Beyer of
Shawano; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; parents; and brother, Walter
Beyer.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 26 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
January 27 (with visitation from 10:00-11:00) at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Neillsville. Following the service there will be a luncheon served at
St. John’s Lutheran School for all those who wish to celebrate Alice’s life.
