The closing of the Heartland Cooperative convenience and country-supply store in Neillsville left the community with one less place where shoppers could pick up commodities such as birdseed and deer-corn.

Mike Murphy had a solution: Sell those things from his All Season Sports and Archery store along USH 10 on Neillsville’s west side.

Rivers Edge Country Store was created, and those products are being sold through the store within All Seasons.

“It’s two different businesses within the store,” Murphy said.

Murphy said he was among the people who were sad to see a Neillsville business close, particularly because it could create a partial gap in offering some of the pet and wildlife products that were sold at the convenience and country-supply store.

He’d been working with the Marshfield-based Prince Corporation to sell corn products to hunters. It seemed to follow that expanding the offerings would make sense, he said.

“We’re setting up to do everything the Cenex (Heartland) store had, plus a lot more,” Murphy said.

Bagged and cob corn, bird food, dog food, cat food, sunflower seed and other small-animal food are examples of what will be sold. Treats for animals also are included, and the list continues to expand, according to Murphy.

“If we don’t have it, we’ll be able to order it,” he said.

Many of the products are on-hand, and signage and shelving is being worked on within the All Season Sports and Archery store.

The store’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. It’s closed Sundays and Tuesdays.
