Vanderhoof, Charles A. (30 MAR 1931 - 6 FEB 2018)
Charles A. Vanderhoof, age 86, of Colby, passed away surrounded by his family on
Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Dycora Transitional Health in Abbotsford under the
tender care of hospice.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Zion Lutheran
Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will preside. Interment will follow at West
Spencer Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of
service Friday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is
entrusted with the arrangements.
Charles was born on March 30, 1931, the son of Ben and Myra (Cole) Vanderhoog in
the town of Sherman. He was united in marriage to the former Ruth Kohnhorst on
Aug. 11, 1951, in Dorchester. Charles attended Spencer Schools and was employed
at Blum Brothers Box Company before his marriage. After his marriage, he started
working for the L.C. Christensen Company of Abbotsford in 1952, as farm manager.
Together they farmed in Spencer for 25 years until moving to Colby in 1977,
where he continued to manage the farm until health problems caused him to
retire.
Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth of Colby; three sons, Larry
and Mark of Colby and Roger (Tammy) of Spencer; seven grandchildren, James
(Kelly) Vanderhoof, Jeff (Jane) Vanderhoof, Becky Vanderhoof, Shawna Vanderhoof,
Roger Vanderhoof II, Deanna (Carl) Delis and Jason (Amanda) Vanderhoof; 11
great-grandchildren, Jada, Lexi, Noah, Keagan, Danica, Cora, Kobe, Carter,
Hayden, Alexis and Trisha; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine sisters and two brothers, Byrl
(Dorothy) Lawrence, Jack (Grace) Bryda, Harold (Esther) Gautheir, Louis (Mabel)
Roggensack, Blanche Lawrence, Valerious (Hazel) Manthe, Milton (Edna) Shimek,
Harold (Viola) Walti, Randy (Genevieve) Miller, Archie (Nila) Vanderhoof and
Earl (Susan) Vanderhoof.
