Sandfort, Randal Jon (22 November 1949 – 6 February 2018)
Randall Jon Sandfort, 68, born to George and Rena (Van Someren) Sandfort Nov.
22, 1949, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at home and surrounded
by his daughters. Randy was born in Baldwin and spent his youth with his two
older brothers, Rona and Jim, working hard on the family’s farm. After high
school, all three brothers pursued higher education, with Randy attending UW-Eau
Claire, obtaining a degree in economics, and graduating from UW Law School in
1974. Through his professional career, the majority of his time was spent
defending healthcare providers in medical legal cases, completing the last 18
years of his career at Marshfield Clinic. Many that knew Randy were aware of his
statewide recognition as an excellent litigator.
Randy also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. As he would say, “No one
care for nature more than a hunter.” Some of Randy’s favorite days were hunting
and fishing with his brothers Ron and Jim, nephew Matt and grandson Derrick.
Almost every spring and summer morning, Randy enjoyed a cup of coffee on his
deck while watching the birds that filled his back yard, keeping an eye out for
his favorite, the orioles. But there was one love that trumped all others,
namely his love for his three daughters. Randy’s greatest joy was watching his
girls, Jessica (Ralph), Katelyn (Martin), and Emily (Rishi) develop into
hardworking, professional women. He also adored his grandsons and was the
G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all Time) and best buddy to Derrick and the boys, Brayden
and Grayson. He shared a strong bond with his cherished granddaughter, Alissa,
with their mutual love of NCIS, ice cream and warm weather. In addition to the
above, he is survived by his brother Ron, his two beloved sisters-in-law Joan
and Margie, lifelong friend Eric and numerous nephews and nieces.
Randy rejoined his mother Rena, father George, and brother Jim in heaven. We are
sure that the deer hunting, and walleye fishing is plentiful there.
The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at the Baldwin
Christian Reformed Church, 897 US Hwy 63, Baldwin, WI 554002. A celebration of
Randy’s life will follow at the Phoenix Grill located at 20195 10th Avenue in
Baldwin from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Online condolences may be expressed at
www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St.
Jude’s Children’s Hospital, one of Randy’s favorite charities.
Randy prepared a final statement for his family, and we believe this perfectly
and succinctly describes his spirit, priorities, and what brought him the most
joy: “The love I have for my three girls is boundless and eternal.”
