Roderick R. Ashbeck, 63, Greenwood, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018. A celebration of life will be held at noon on Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Loyal Sportsman’s Club in Loyal.

Roderick Russell Ashbeck was born on Dec. 24, 1954, in Marshfield, the son of Richard T. and Jane (nee Gilbertson) Ashbeck Sr. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1973. During high school, he began hauling canned milk for his father at the family’s Hemlock Cheese Factory. After completing high school, Rod continued hauling milk for the family’s business until purchasing the cheese factory from his father. After selling the factory in the early 1980s, Rod then worked for his brother, Rodger, who owned and operated Elmdale Cheese Factory. His brother sold the factory in the late 1980s. Rod then hauled milk for Dairy Farmers of America and later Grassland Dairy in Greenwood. He retired in 2015. He was a member of the GWR Riders Snowmobile Club. Rod had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards and racing stock cars when he was younger.

He is survived by two sons: Riley Ashbeck of Spencer, and Randy Ashbeck of Eau Claire; two grandsons: Rogan and Ryson Ashbeck; his mother: Jane Ashbeck of Loyal; one sister: Linda (Edward) Volovsek of Willard; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father: Richard T. Ashbeck Sr.; one granddaughter, Kaylee Rae Ashbeck; and two brothers: Richard T. Ashbeck Jr. and Rodger Ashbeck.
